I remember back in the 1950’s when US immigration laws were quite different and more sensible. Each country of origin had a quota for immigrants. Each immigrant was thoroughly researched. Even medical exams were required. Then the immigrant needed two US sponsors, who swore under oath that they would take care of the immigrant family in case they needed financial or other help. This was required to prevent a burden for the US taxpayers.
Now, the US is letting in tens of thousands of “migrants,” not even knowing their names or where they came from. Even the heads of the FBI and NSA say that they have no way to vet these people. Many Americans agree that the immigration laws of the past should be revived.
Here is an excerpt from the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952, also known as the McCarran-Walter Act, which allows for the,
“suspension of entry or imposition of restrictions by the President. Whenever the President finds that the entry of aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, the President may, by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or non-immigrants or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate”.
The Act was utilized by Jimmy Carter in 1979 to keep Iranians out of the United States, but he actually went further. He made all Iranian students already here check-in, and then he even deported a bunch of them. Seven thousand were found in violation of their visas, and fifteen thousand Iranians were forced to leave the United States in 1979.
It is of note that the Act requires that an applicant for immigration must be of good moral character and “attached to the principles of the (U.S.) Constitution.”
Many Americans now ask, “are our politicians nuts” to let tens of thousands of people in when even ISIS has declared that ISIS members will be part of the flood of these ‘migrants?”
